On Thursday evening the news broke that Egypt seemed to have cut of most Internet access within the country. Unusually, rather than just blocking access to specific social media and news websites, they appear to have ordered ISPs to stop connecting.
Since then a number of work-arounds have been suggested, including dialling up to modems in other countries (many of which have waived fees to enable this access to happen), and faxing information into schools in Egypt. See this BBC article for more information about what is happening.
And consider how you would feel if you were cut off from the Internet entirely like this... it's a scary prospect.
