An article in the Observer this weekend highlights the provocative opinions of Andrew Keen (see his blog for more details) about Web 2.0. He argues that "most people do not have anything interesting to say" and that sites such as Wikipedia make it "impossible to discern the important from the trivial". A similar article in the Sunday Times welcomes the opening of this debate, suggesting that although Web 2.0 is currently a specialised arena, the deluge of user-generated content is going to have an effect on us all.
Is Keen correct? Have we entered "the cult of the child,” where “the more you know, the less you know."? Is it "all about digital narcissism, shameless self-promotion”? Has Web 2.0 dumbed us down?
